Five Guys Burgers and Fries, the hurricane and earthquake-ravaged East Coast’s attempt at being In-N-Out, is invading the turf of its inspiration, with a location in Culver City and one coming to Downtown (there were reports earlier this year that a franchise was coming to Westwood, but that is not listed in its website).
What is listed as “coming soon,” however, is a restaurant at 5550 Wilshire, the relatively new art decoish condo-turned-luxury-rental building on Miracle Mile.
In response to a question from a concerned eater, Five Guys tweeted on August 3:
We hope to open Five Guys on Wilshire Blvd in L.A. this fall!
That looks to be an ambitious timetable. No construction work has begun — not even a “coming soon” sign.
If it does happen, that building would be a haven for higher quality fast food. Chipotle opened last year, and Ono Hawaiian BBQ just put up its sign last week and looks set to open very soon.
Five Guys would be a good addition to the neighborhood. Quick food choices are somewhat limited on that end of Miracle Mile, unless you are fans of Subway or Quiznos, or Jack-in-the-Box or Burger King on the other side of La Brea. Many are not.

Not sure there’s a whole lot of “higher quality” with Five Guys…they fall far behind other “better burger” places as they don’t disclose the quality or handling of their beef.
There is also a total lack of a brand story associated with the chain, other than their framed initial newspaper reviews, which is not a story but a claim as to what it might have once been, but has devolved with expansion.
Look for Burger Lounge from San Diego coming to WEHO early Fall instead!

Hiss! Boo! Interlopers! Pretenders to the throne!
The only advantage I can see is that they have bacon and In-N-Out does not. Maybe In-N-Out needs to add bacon as an extra topping. But there’s no reason to go to FGBF when we have INOB. Unless you really like free peanuts with your hamburger.
BTW, they are also opening one in Northridge, RIGHT NEXT TO IN-N-OUT.
The GALL!
That secret menu of theirs probably has that too. Just haven’t figured that out yet. Maybe u have to ask for it saying with ‘a little pig’ Who knows, will have to see next time I go
As an L.A native, obsessive burger junkie and amateur chef, I must say that Five Guys is indeed AMAZING! I love In N Out, but Five Guys is every bit as good if not better. They don’t need a manufactured “brand story”- you can feel the passion and ethos in the food. I am personally elated to finally have a Five Guys in L.A!
